How often should a piano be tuned?
Most piano technicians, manufacturers, and experts recommend tuning every 6 to 12 months to maintain pitch stability and ensure long-term health of the instrument, especially in changing Louisiana weather.
How long does a piano tuning take?
On average, expect around 2 hours, that's including setup, basic cleaning, and fine-tuning. If minor repairs are needed, I’ll take care of those as well in a timely manner.
What if my piano has not been tuned in years?
That is very common. If the piano is far below pitch, it may need a pitch raise before the fine tuning so it can hold pitch more accurately. I can check that when I arrive and let you know what your piano needs.
What is a regulation?
Regulation is all about making sure every mechanical part of your piano’s action (the internal mechanism that transfers motion from your fingers to the strings), is responsive and precise. It allows you to control dynamics and touch with consistency and ease.
What is voicing?
Voicing adjusts the tone of the piano, not the pitch. If your piano sounds too bright, too harsh, too soft, or uneven from note to note, voicing can help shape the sound and make the piano more enjoyable to play.
Why is cleaning my piano important?
Dust, moisture, and pests can wreak havoc on your piano. Regular cleanings can protect internal parts, prevent sticky keys, rust, and even long-term damage, while helping maintain its value and appearance.
Can you fix sticky keys or broken pedals?
Yes. Sticky keys, dropped keys, squeaks, pedal issues, and small action problems are common. Some fixes are simple, while others may need a closer inspection before giving a final answer.
Do you accept electronic payments?
Yes! I accept Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, and then cash or checks, whatever works best for you.
Do you charge a mileage fee?
Yes, but it’s reasonable and based on distance. If you’re in or around Baton Rouge, you’ll likely pay around $10-15. This fee is included in the price given while scheduling.
Do you service churches, schools, and studios?
Yes. I work with home piano owners, churches, schools, studios, and musicians. If the piano is used often, regular maintenance can make a big difference in both sound and playability.
Should the room be quiet during tuning?
A quieter room definitely helps. I can work around normal household noise, but loud TVs, vacuums, or nearby music can make fine tuning harder and may slow the appointment down.
